Siddle arms research page
Hello, this page is all about the research that one person did on the name Siddle and a coat of arms for the name, yes, my own research about my name.

I was told that the symbol on the shield of the Siddle coat of arms was of carpenters centre punches and that the coat of arms was to do with coal mining.

(Coats of arms were invented to identify who was behind armour, not for coal mines.)
I had previously discovered that the symbol on the shield is Ugaritic cuneiform for the letter S.

The remains of the ancient city of Ugarit are in Syria in a place now called Ras Shamra.

The city was invaded and destroyed around 1200 bc by sea peoples and nearly 3200 years later was excavated by French archaeologist.

A then unknown written languauge was found in approximately 1500 texts on clay tablets which is now known as Ugaritic cuneiform.

Here are 9 coats of arms including Siddle I found to have exactly the same colours/design except a different symbol/design on the shield and some with lions that were, I think, later additions to copies of the original.

Obviously 1 of these was the first of it's kind, if you look at the 3 shapes arranged in an upside down triangle on the Siddle shield and compare it with the rest you can see that 4 of the others have the same upside down triangle arrangement of 3 symbols, this isn't just limited to these 9 coats of arms with the same colour and design, it is very common in many others, on the Siddle shield though this clearly means S, this would suggest all the others with 3 symbols arranged in an upside down triangle had came later than/copied/copied copies of the Siddle coat of arms, all 9 also have the same shaped 'continental shield.'

If you search 'oldest coat of arms' on google Skweres and Womack appear on the list of results, others appear on the list also and some even before them but they do not have the 'continental' shaped shield which is said to be older. Here's a comparison between the Womack and Siddle coats of arms.

and again, a comparison between the Skweres and Siddle coats of arms.

Yellow is not a colour used in coats of arms, it should be gold.
To hazard a guess I would say that all 8 of the others are copies of the one original, Siddle coat of arms.
Here's a closer look at the others I found similar to Siddle.

The fact that Womack and Skweres appears in the results on google when you search 'oldest coat of arms' and the probability that both of them are copies of Siddle means the Siddle coat of arms is at very least, a very old one, one of the first, maybe even the first.

Above are some artifacts found when Ugarit was excavated, the bronze age city's history dates back millenia, wikipedia says a wall was built around it possibly as early as 6000 bc, many other artifacts were found including some Egyptian artifacts from certain dynasties.
The first page in the links states that the name Siddle comes from a Mesopotamian/Phonecian root word, Sidi, which means Saint in one language and my master in another. The siddlearms page was my main starting point for this research, although it says nothing about the Ugaritic cuneiform on the shield, it states that the name Siddle has Phonetian origins, that was confirmation for me that I was correct about the symbol on the shield meaning S.
I am well aware I may not be descended directly from the gentry who first established this c.o.a. but this isn't what's important to me, what's important to me is knowing my names origins and that the name was in England in pre Roman times.

Yes, Siddle also has a tartan, the Siddle tartan.

I'm not expecting anything for this and did it for myself mostly but any donations for this research would be gratefully accepted, I don't know how to add a paypal button hence the crypto wallet addresses below:-
